Stealthplate is made using atomic manipulation and nano-engineered surface treatments of the ultra-tough polycarbonate base. Thereafter, the treated surface is laminated against a double sided layer of strong acrylic adhesive which is used to adhere Stealthplate to your number plate.

Using the phenomena of constructive and destructive interference of light, these surface treatments turn Stealthplate into a mirror for the infrared while remaining transparent to the naked eye. The precise details of the process are a closely guarded secret, but rest assured that Stealthplate is made in the UK. What’s more, it is based around a design currently operating on the British Army’s Challenger Main Battle Tank!

Infrared cameras are widely used for automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) for a number of reasons: they are immune to glare from headlamps; they can use strong illumination to greatly improve image contrast that doesn’t blind a driver; they can ‘see’ through fog and rain effectively. Many ‘anti-camera’ products on the market today make extraordinary claims for what they can do. We do not make such claims because we understand the laws of physics. Stealthplate works as a mirror in the IR while remaining transparent to the human eye and ordinary ‘visible’ cameras and prevents plates being seen by most IR cameras. Proof? See the video!!

Once you are ready to fit, locate the tab on the adhesive layer of the Stealthplate. This indicates the tab which is peeled back to reveal the adhesive on the plate. Before peeling this tab, peel back the protection film that covers the other side of the plate cover. In some cases this is white, in some cases it is clear. Throw this protection film away. Go back to the adhesive release layer with the little arrow in the corner, then follow the video clips at:

Be careful when you’re peeling back the release layer. You ‘peel’, you don’t pull. Anything more than the very slightest of effort and you’re doing it wrong! It takes more effort to peel the white protection layer than it does the adhesive release layer. When you peel the release layer, make sure the plate is sticky and not the layer you’re peeling back. You only have one shot because the adhesive is very strong (it has to be to encapsulate the active material), so be careful.

Make sure you scrub your number plate well with white spirit and allow to dry thoroughly. Even if they’re brand new. Don’t just clean with soapy water. There are chemicals on the surface which need to be removed with an organic solvent. But don’t use acetone – you’ll make a proper mess!
Don’t forget – its not big and its not clever to speed on public roads and we do not endorse doing so. Moreover, these covers are NOT FOR ROAD USE and should only be attached to number plates on a vehicle that is used on private property…

Keeping them in tip top condition? You don’t need to do much really. Soapy water when you wash the car will do. Try not to jet wash them directly. We have had them coming off doing that, though you do need to be trying to manage it.
